We install the SigenStor most weeks across Milton Keynes and Buckinghamshire, so this is a review from the people wiring them onto walls — not a spec sheet copied from a brochure. Here is what it actually is, what it costs, where it shines, and where it does not.

MCS & NAPIT certified. From a single 9kWh module to a 54kWh stack — fully installed, commissioned and backup-tested.
SigenStor InstallationWhat is the SigenStor?
The SigenStor is the flagship home battery from SigEnergy — a manufacturer founded in 2022 by a team with a strong pedigree in power electronics. Its headline idea is a "5-in-1" architecture: instead of a separate inverter, battery, PV controller, EV charger and energy manager bolted together, the SigenStor consolidates all of that into a single stackable unit.
In plain terms, one SigenStor cabinet gives you:
- A hybrid solar inverter (runs your panels)
- Modular battery storage using LiFePO4 (lithium iron phosphate) cells
- Whole-home backup via a Backup Power Controller (BPC)
- An optional DC EV charging / V2H path so the same box can later run vehicle-to-home
- AI-driven energy management through the mySigen app
It is a DC-coupled hybrid, which makes it a natural fit for a new solar and battery install, and it works in both single-phase and three-phase homes.
Specs and sizing
The part most people care about: it is properly modular. You start with what you need and stack more later.
| Spec | SigenStor |
|---|---|
| Battery chemistry | LiFePO4 (lithium iron phosphate) |
| Module size | ~9 kWh per module |
| Usable capacity range | Stackable from ~5 kWh up to ~54 kWh |
| Phases | Single-phase and three-phase |
| Backup | Whole-home via Backup Power Controller (BPC) |
| EV / V2H | Optional DC EV charging and vehicle-to-home |
| Warranty | 10-year manufacturer warranty (battery + inverter) |
| Existing solar | Compatible; some inverters retained, others replaced by the SigenStor hybrid |
Why the modularity matters: most homes do not need 20+ kWh on day one. With the SigenStor you can start at 9kWh, live with it for a year, and add another module later without ripping anything out. Very few competitors let you size that precisely.
How much does a SigenStor cost in the UK?
Prices below are fully installed by us in 2026 — including cabling, mounting, commissioning and a backup test — and reflect the 0% VAT rate on home battery storage.
| System | Capacity | Fully installed |
|---|---|---|
| Single module | 9 kWh | from ~£4,500 |
| Two modules | 18 kWh | £6,000–£7,500 |
| Larger stacks | 27–54 kWh | Quoted per system |
On a cost-per-kWh basis, the SigenStor typically comes in cheaper than a like-for-like Tesla Powerwall 3 setup, and the finer sizing steps mean you are not paying for capacity you will not use.

Get a Free QuoteWhat is good about it
- One box, fewer failure points. Consolidating inverter, battery and management into a single unit means a tidier install and one manufacturer standing behind the whole thing.
- Genuinely modular. Start small, expand later — from ~5kWh to 54kWh — without replacing the core hardware.
- Strong value per kWh. Usually cheaper than Powerwall 3 for equivalent storage.
- Future-proofed for EVs. The same cabinet you fit for storage can later run DC EV charging and V2H — the most mature bidirectional platform we see in the UK right now.
- Safe chemistry. LiFePO4 is the industry standard for home batteries for good reason — excellent thermal stability and long cycle life.
- Good software. The mySigen app and AI scheduling make it easy to lean into cheap-rate charging and SEG export windows.
The honest downsides
No system is perfect, and we would rather you hear this from us than find out after:
- It is a newer brand. SigEnergy has only been around since 2022. The hardware and reviews are excellent so far, but it does not have a 15-year track record the way some names do. The 10-year warranty covers you, but it is a fair point to weigh.
- Best as a hybrid. It shines as part of a DC-coupled solar-and-battery system. If you have an existing setup with an inverter you want to keep, some configurations mean replacing that inverter with the SigenStor hybrid — worth checking before you commit.
- Warranty is 10 years, not 15. A couple of rivals headline a longer warranty. In practice 10 years on LiFePO4 is solid, but if a 15-year figure matters to you, factor it in.
SigenStor vs Tesla Powerwall 3
The two systems we get asked to compare most. Both are excellent; they suit different priorities.
| SigenStor | Tesla Powerwall 3 | |
|---|---|---|
| Chemistry | LiFePO4 | LiFePO4 |
| Starting size | ~9 kWh (modular) | 13.5 kWh |
| Sizing flexibility | Fine steps, stack to 54 kWh | Fewer steps |
| Cost per kWh | Generally lower | Higher |
| EV / V2H path | Yes (DC) | No native V2H |
| Warranty | 10 years | 10 years |
| Brand track record | Newer (since 2022) | Long, well known |
Our short version: if you want the strongest brand name and a simple single-size unit, the Powerwall 3 is a safe pick. If you want finer sizing, better value per kWh and a clear path to EV/V2H, the SigenStor edges it — which is why it is the one we most often recommend. We fit both, so we have no reason to push you either way. There is a fuller rundown in our battery storage guide.
Who the SigenStor is best for
- Most new solar-and-battery homes — the all-in-one design and value make it the sensible default.
- People who want to start small and grow — the modular stacking is genuinely useful.
- Anyone eyeing an EV — buying a platform that will do V2H later avoids paying twice.
- Value-focused buyers — you get more usable storage per pound than most rivals.
If you have no solar yet, a battery on its own can still make sense on a cheap night tariff — we cover that in home battery storage without solar. And if you are cross-shopping brands, our Fox ESS battery review covers the other value option we fit.
Frequently asked questions
Is the SigenStor a good battery?
Yes. It is one of the strongest all-in-one home batteries available in the UK in 2026 — safe LiFePO4 chemistry, a flexible modular design, good software and strong value per kWh. Its main caveat is that SigEnergy is a newer brand, founded in 2022, so it lacks a very long track record.
How much does a SigenStor cost in the UK?
A single 9kWh module starts from around £4,500 fully installed. A typical 18kWh system (two modules) runs £6,000–£7,500 installed. All prices include the 0% VAT rate on home battery storage.
What warranty does the SigenStor come with?
A 10-year manufacturer warranty covering both the battery modules and the hybrid inverter. That is standard for quality LiFePO4 systems, though a couple of rivals headline a 15-year figure.
SigenStor vs Tesla Powerwall 3 — which is better?
Both are excellent. The Powerwall 3 has the stronger brand and a simple single-size unit; the SigenStor offers finer sizing, generally lower cost per kWh, and a clear EV/V2H path. For most homes we recommend the SigenStor on value and flexibility, but we fit both.
Can I add a SigenStor to my existing solar panels?
Usually, yes. The SigenStor is compatible with existing solar. Depending on your current inverter, it can sometimes be retained; in other cases the SigenStor hybrid inverter replaces it. We confirm which applies at survey.
Does the SigenStor work as an EV charger?
It can. The SigenStor supports an optional DC EV charging and vehicle-to-home path, so the same cabinet you fit for battery storage can later charge your car and, with a compatible EV, discharge it back into your home.
