The Workplace Charging Scheme
The OZEV Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) is a government grant offering up to £500 per socket, up to 40 sockets per business — so up to £20,000 per business.
To qualify:
- Be a registered UK business, charity or public sector organisation
- Have dedicated off-street parking
- Use an installer authorised for the scheme
- Install OZEV-approved charge points — the hardware we fit is on the approved list
We do not claim the WCS on your behalf. Depth of Light is OZEV-authorised for residential schemes only, so the workplace claim is one you make yourself. The scheme runs to 31 March 2027 — see GOV.UK: Workplace Charging Scheme for the current rules.

All chargers we install are OCPP 1.6 or 2.0 compatible — you're not locked into a single management platform.
The commercial install process
- Site survey — we visit, look at parking layout, electrical supply, cable runs and DNO capacity
- Load assessment — calculate maximum simultaneous load, decide if load balancing or supply upgrade is needed
- DNO application (if needed) — most installs over 3 chargers need DNO sign-off; we handle this
- Installation — typically 1-3 days depending on size; minimal disruption to business operations
- Commissioning & testing — full electrical test, functional test of every socket
- 12-month support — included with every commercial install
Fleet depot & high-volume charging
For fleet operators we install:
- OCPP-compatible management software — track usage per vehicle, per driver, per cost centre
- Smart load balancing — share available grid capacity dynamically across chargers, avoiding expensive DNO upgrades
- Cost-per-mile reporting — automatic monthly reports for finance and fleet management
- RFID access control — only authorised drivers can charge; integration with HR systems
- Tariff scheduling — charge overnight on commercial off-peak tariffs only

Planning & DNO
We handle all planning and DNO paperwork for commercial installs:
- Planning permission: rarely required for car park chargers under permitted development rights. Listed buildings and conservation areas are exceptions.
- DNO application: required for most installs over 3 chargers or where the cumulative load exceeds your existing supply. Typical response time 6-8 weeks for larger applications. We submit and chase on your behalf.
- Building Control: Part P notification handled for all installs.
