Workplace Charging Scheme — up to £14,000 for your business

The OZEV Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) is a government grant currently offering £350 per socket, up to 40 sockets per business — that's up to £14,000 in grant funding per business.

To qualify:

  • Be a registered UK business, charity or public sector organisation
  • Have dedicated off-street parking
  • Use an OZEV-approved installer (we are)
  • Install OZEV-approved charge points (we install only approved hardware)

We handle the entire WCS application on your behalf — voucher claim, evidence pack and submission. Most clients receive their grant within 4-6 weeks of installation.

All chargers we install are OCPP 1.6 or 2.0 compatible — you're not locked into a single management platform.

The commercial install process

  1. Site survey — we visit, look at parking layout, electrical supply, cable runs and DNO capacity
  2. Load assessment — calculate maximum simultaneous load, decide if load balancing or supply upgrade is needed
  3. DNO application (if needed) — most installs over 3 chargers need DNO sign-off; we handle this
  4. Installation — typically 1-3 days depending on size; minimal disruption to business operations
  5. Commissioning & testing — full electrical test, functional test of every socket
  6. WCS grant claim — we submit on your behalf
  7. 12-month support — included with every commercial install

Fleet depot & high-volume charging

For fleet operators we install:

  • OCPP-compatible management software — track usage per vehicle, per driver, per cost centre
  • Smart load balancing — share available grid capacity dynamically across chargers, avoiding expensive DNO upgrades
  • Cost-per-mile reporting — automatic monthly reports for finance and fleet management
  • RFID access control — only authorised drivers can charge; integration with HR systems
  • Tariff scheduling — charge overnight on commercial off-peak tariffs only

Solar + commercial EV — the cost-killer combo

Pairing your commercial solar installation with workplace EV chargepoints is the single most cost-effective fleet energy decision available in 2026:

  • Generated solar that would otherwise be exported at SEG rate (~6-15p/kWh) instead charges your fleet at near-zero marginal cost
  • Your fleet running cost-per-mile drops to typically 2-4p/mile vs. 12-18p/mile on grid power
  • Excess generation still exported at SEG rate — solar is never wasted

We can quote both as a combined project — single survey, single project manager, one invoice.

Planning & DNO

We handle all planning and DNO paperwork for commercial installs:

  • Planning permission: rarely required for car park chargers under permitted development rights. Listed buildings and conservation areas are exceptions.
  • DNO application: required for most installs over 3 chargers or where the cumulative load exceeds your existing supply. Typical response time 6-8 weeks for larger applications. We submit and chase on your behalf.
  • Building Control: Part P notification handled for all installs.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much is the Workplace Charging Scheme grant?
£350 per socket, up to 40 sockets per business — that's up to £14,000 per business. We handle the application for you.
Do I need planning permission for commercial EV chargers?
Almost never for car park installations under permitted development rights. Listed buildings and conservation areas are exceptions — we'll check during the survey.
Will I need a DNO upgrade for multiple chargers?
Often not, if we use load balancing. Smart load management lets you install many chargers without upgrading your supply. We assess this at site survey.
Can you handle the WCS grant claim?
Yes — included with every commercial install. We prepare the evidence pack and submit on your behalf. Most clients receive grant payment within 4-6 weeks of installation.
What's OCPP and do I need it?
OCPP (Open Charge Point Protocol) means your chargers can be managed by any compatible software. We install OCPP-compatible hardware so you're not locked into a single supplier's app or platform.
How long does a commercial install take?
1 day for a single point, 2-3 days for a 6-10 unit installation, longer for larger sites. We work around your business operations to minimise disruption.
