For police-response / SSAIB-grade systems

Honest about accreditation. Same as our CCTV service — we're not currently SSAIB accredited ourselves. If your insurer specifically requires SSAIB, or you need a police-response URN (which requires a monitored alarm from a certified installer), we work with an accredited partner firm. We project-manage; they provide the certification and ARC monitoring. The combined service typically beats going to a national chain on price and on local responsiveness.

For most home alarms (where monitoring isn't a hard requirement), we install directly. We'll be straight at survey stage about which route applies.

Self-monitoring vs monitored

Most home users are well-served by self-monitoring. ARC monitoring makes sense when your insurer requires it, when your contents value justifies the monthly cost, or when you travel often and can't respond to alerts personally.

Why Orisec?

Orisec is a UK manufacturer of professional-grade wireless alarm systems. We install Orisec as our default for these reasons:

  • Grade 2 capable — meets the standard most insurers ask for
  • Not sold in retail — engineer-only, which keeps DIY pricing pressure off and means service is professional
  • No proprietary panel lock-in — any Orisec engineer can service it, you're not tied to us
  • Strong app — clean interface, reliable push notifications, history log, multi-user
  • Compatible with third-party ARCs — if you start self-monitoring and want to add ARC monitoring later, the panel doesn't need replacing
  • UK-based support — phones answered in the UK

External sounders — the visual deterrent

Burglars look at the front of the house before deciding. A visible, branded sounder box says "this property is alarmed and protected" — even before the alarm is set. We mount sounders at first-floor level where they're impossible to silence quickly and impossible to miss.

Smart alarm integration

If you have other smart home devices we can integrate the alarm into the wider system:

  • Trigger smart lights when the alarm activates
  • Notify via Alexa, Google Home or Apple HomeKit
  • Tie alarm events to CCTV recordings automatically
  • Smart locks integration (Yale, Nuki) for automatic arming on lock

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a monitored alarm or can I self-monitor?
For most homes, self-monitoring (app alerts to your phone) is fine. Monitoring becomes important if your insurer requires it, your contents are very high value, or you travel often.
Can you install Ring or Hive alarms?
Yes — we install consumer-grade smart alarms (Ring, Hive, Ajax) for clients who prefer that route. Professional install means it actually works first time and the app is set up properly.
Is Orisec better than Ring?
Different — Orisec is professional-grade hardware (Grade 2, insurer accepted as standard, more reliable wireless), Ring is consumer-grade and cheaper. We'll recommend based on your needs and insurer requirements.
Do I need a key holder?
For self-monitored alarms, no. For monitored systems, yes — typically you, a family member or a key holding company. The ARC contacts the key holder before any police response.
Will the alarm work in a power cut?
Yes — all systems we install have battery backup typically lasting 12-24 hours. Wireless sensors run on long-life lithium batteries that we replace as part of annual servicing.
Can the alarm trigger my smart lights?
Yes — most systems integrate with smart home platforms (Hue, Alexa, Google Home). Useful as a deterrent and for safe egress when the alarm sounds at night.
Do you service alarms you didn't install?
Often yes, especially for Orisec and other open systems. Some closed proprietary systems we may need to refer back to the original installer.
How often does it need servicing?
Annual service recommended — battery checks, sensor tests, app updates, sounder confirmation. From £80/year for a typical home install.
