For monitored / NSI-grade systems
Honest about accreditation. We're not currently NSI or SSAIB accredited ourselves. If you need a police-response URN for your CCTV (or your insurer specifically requires NSI/SSAIB), we work closely with an accredited partner firm. We carry out the survey, project management and install; they provide the certification and ARC monitoring. You get the best of both worlds — local, hands-on service plus the formal accreditation when you need it.
For most home and small business CCTV (where monitoring isn't required), we install directly with no accreditation issues. We'll be straight about which route applies to your situation.
Solar-powered CCTV
For locations without mains power — outbuildings, farm gates, equestrian yards, construction sites, allotments — we install standalone solar-powered CCTV units:
- Solar panel + battery + IR or ColorVu camera + 4G connectivity in one unit
- No cabling required, no mains power needed
- Cellular data via 4G SIM (typically £8-£15/month)
- App-based viewing, motion alerts, recordings to cloud or onboard storage
- Pole-mounted or building-mounted, typically 5-10m height for best coverage
Privacy and GDPR
UK GDPR places obligations on you when operating external CCTV. We advise on:
- Camera placement — avoiding capturing public spaces or neighbour property unnecessarily
- Signage requirements — visible signs informing people they're being recorded
- Data retention — typically 30-day rolling retention is appropriate
- Subject access requests — what to do if someone asks for footage of themselves
For commercial users we can supply template signage and a sample CCTV policy as part of the install.

What to think about before you commit
- Coverage zones — front door, driveway, rear garden, side passage, garage. We'll walk the property with you and recommend the minimum number of cameras to cover the priorities.
- Cable routing — wired is more reliable, but means cables along eaves or through soffits. We discuss this so you know what to expect.
- NVR location — needs ventilation and ideally near your broadband router; loft, study, garage are common locations.
- Internet connection — required for remote viewing. We can advise on signal-extending solutions if your router is far from where the NVR will live.

Can I view the cameras from my phone?
Yes — Hik-Connect app on iOS and Android. We set this up on your phone before we leave. Live view, recordings, motion alerts, two-way audio (where the camera supports it).
Are wireless cameras as good as wired?
No — wireless cameras lose signal, run out of battery, and depend on your WiFi reaching the camera. We recommend wired for permanent installs. Wireless and battery cameras are fine for temporary use or where running cable is impossible.
Can you install cameras at outbuildings without power?
Yes — solar-powered standalone CCTV units are designed exactly for this. They include their own solar panel, battery and 4G connectivity.
Do I need an NVR or can I use cloud storage only?
We recommend an NVR for reliability — cloud-only depends on internet uptime and ongoing subscription. Most of our installs use a local NVR with optional cloud backup of important clips.
Will neighbours be able to see my cameras?
The cameras themselves are visible from outside the property — that's part of their deterrent value. Footage is only accessible by you (and anyone you grant app access to).
How long is footage stored?
Depends on NVR storage and number of cameras. A typical 4-camera system records around 14-30 days of continuous footage on a 2TB NVR. Motion-only recording extends this significantly.
Are Hikvision cameras secure / safe to use?
We install firmware-current cameras with strong passwords, isolated from your main network where appropriate, and we walk you through the security settings before handover. Remote access uses Hikvision's encrypted cloud relay.
Can you install for businesses too?
Yes — small business CCTV is a common request. For sites requiring NSI/SSAIB accreditation we project-manage with an accredited partner.
