Why they got in touch

A homeowner in Botley had already bought the panels and the batteries and wanted a certified installer to fit and commission them properly. We do take install-only work where the kit is suitable.

What we recommended and why

Two things made this one a design job rather than a lift-and-fit. The roof is slate at 46°, which is steep, and the usable faces point east and west rather than south — so the panels went four and four, catching morning on one side and evening on the other.

East–west splits generate less at noon than a south-facing roof but spread output across more of the day, which pairs well with a large battery. There was plenty of that here: three Dyness Powerbox G2 units, 30.72 kWh between them.

The install

The panels went on in early July. Commissioning had to wait for the network operator's G99 approval, which came through in September — about two and a half months. The system was commissioned on 22 September once it was in hand.

The result

A steep slate roof, split east and west, with 30 kWh of storage behind it. The MCS certificate puts estimated generation at 3,246 kWh a year. The customer came back later that month to ask us to quote solar for their hotel.
