Why they got in touch

A homeowner in Milton Keynes came to us through the solar quote form on the website. The household was using roughly 4,700 kWh a year and wanted solar with storage.

What we recommended and why

The usable roof came in two parts: a larger south-west face and a smaller south-east one. The smaller face was partly shaded by the neighbouring roof, and shading is the thing that quietly ruins a solar design — on a conventional string, a shaded panel drags down the ones wired with it.

Rather than leave that face off the design, we fitted Tigo optimisers to the five panels on it. Each panel then performs on its own, so the shaded ones cost you only their own output instead of the whole string's. That let the design grow from an initial 12 panels to 13 × 465 W all-black Aiko panels across both faces, with a Fox 6 kW hybrid inverter and an EP6 Plus battery.

The install

The inverter went outside in the side alley, keeping it out of the way. The G99 application was submitted on 28 March and approved on 13 April, a little under two weeks.

The result

6.04 kWp across two faces, with the shaded face earning its keep rather than being left bare. The MCS certificate puts estimated generation at 4,606 kWh a year.
