What we recommended and why

A single south-west face at 26–30° took eleven panels. With an EV charger going in at the same time, the battery mattered: a Fox EP12 at 11.52 kWh, with the inverter and battery both in the garage.

The install

The network operator approved the connection but capped export at 3.68 kW, below what the array can produce at peak. That is not unusual on a constrained part of the network, and it changes the economics: electricity you cannot export is worth far more used at home than spilled.

The battery and the Zappi both help with that — surplus goes into storage or into the car rather than being throttled at the meter. Roof work took half a day, the electrics a full day.

The result

5.11 kWp with 11.52 kWh of storage and a 7 kW charger, set up so the export cap costs as little as possible. The MCS certificate puts estimated generation at 3,256 kWh a year.
