Why they got in touch
This homeowner lives next door to a job we had finished in the May. They asked for “the 480 Watt panels” like next door, with the aim of being “more economical in energy cost over the winter months”.
What we recommended and why
Same street, different roof. This house had one genuinely good south-facing face at 35°, and other faces that were not worth using — so we said so, and put all twelve panels on the one roof rather than spreading them for the sake of a bigger number.
On storage we discussed the options openly: three 5 kWh units, or a 10 plus a 5. The three-unit option came to about 15 kWh and, importantly, could be fitted straight away rather than waiting until August. They took it.
The install
Scaffold went up on 6 July, the install was done in a single day on 8 July, and the scaffold came down on the 17th.
The result
5.58 kWp on the best roof face with 15.36 kWh behind it. The MCS certificate puts estimated generation at 5,429 kWh a year — the highest of the two neighbouring systems, from the larger roof.
