“Called Depth of Light because I was having trouble with my electricity tripping when solar panels kicked in each morning. Matt came round within a few days and spoke with Solis. Between them the fault was identified and Matt came and fitted a new RCD. Fast, professional, friendly service. Would recommend.”

“Matt did an amazing job replacing our old fuse box! He was super clean, kept us informed every step of the way, and did a really professional job. We’ve used him for various other work since and we’ll definitely keep using his services again.”

What we find on Hemel Hempstead roofs

The New Town neighbourhoods

Most of Hemel was built as a New Town from the late 1940s, in neighbourhoods such as Adeyfield, Bennetts End, Grovehill and Warners End. Terraces and semis with simple pitched roofs: usually straightforward, with the roof width of a terrace setting the size of the array.

The Old Town

The High Street in the Old Town is a conservation area with listed buildings. Roof panels on an unlisted house there are usually permitted development, but listed buildings need consent. We check before we quote.

The Chilterns edge

To the north and west the town meets the Chilterns National Landscape. Roof panels are usually still permitted development there, but wall-mounted panels facing the road are not. Hilly ground can also shade a roof in winter, which we allow for.

The parts that change the price

Roof orientation, not postcode

New Town streets run every which way, so neighbouring houses can face completely different directions. We measure the roof rather than estimate from an address.

Scaffolding access

Terrace rows and footpath-access houses can need longer scaffold runs. We tell you at survey rather than add it later.

Grid connection

Hertfordshire is on UK Power Networks' Eastern network. Most home systems are notified after installation; larger inverters and batteries need G99 approval first — the Welwyn Garden City job took about two weeks. We make the application and handle the paperwork, and we check the operator for your postcode.

Working in Hemel Hempstead from Milton Keynes

We are based in Bletchley, about 40 minutes from Hemel Hempstead. That matters less for the install than for what comes after: if something needs looking at, we come out ourselves rather than subcontract it.

Our nearest finished job in Hertfordshire is in Welwyn Garden City: 8.64kWp of solar, an 11.52kWh Fox ESS battery and a Zappi EV charger on a single south-east roof, with G99 grid approval through in about two weeks. Fitted in September 2026.

We have not finished a job in Hemel Hempstead itself yet, and we won't pretend otherwise.

Solar Panels in Hemel Hempstead — FAQ

From £5,600 for a 3.72kWp system and £5,900 for a 5.58kWp system on a straightforward roof, at 0% VAT until 31 March 2027. A terrace with awkward access can cost more for scaffolding, which we price at survey rather than adding later.

Usually yes. The limits are roof width and orientation rather than anything fundamental. A mid-terrace roof caps the array size, so the honest answer on system size comes from measuring the roof, not from the number of bedrooms.

Yes. It is about 40 minutes from our Bletchley base. We have not finished a job in Hemel itself yet; our nearest Hertfordshire job is in Welwyn Garden City.

How it works

  1. 1. We call you back

Usually the same working day, to talk through what you want and book a survey.

  2. 2. Roof survey

About 40 minutes at your home. We measure the roof, check the consumer unit and look at where a battery could go.

  3. 3. A fixed price in writing

With an MCS performance estimate of what the system should generate. Nothing is added later.

  4. 4. Grid notification

We notify your network operator, or apply for G99 approval first on larger systems, which can take a few weeks.

  5. 5. Installation

Most homes take one or two days, with scaffold up for the roof work.

  6. 6. Handover

We set up the app with you and leave the MCS certificate you need to be paid for exporting.
