“Called Depth of Light because I was having trouble with my electricity tripping when solar panels kicked in each morning. Matt came round within a few days and spoke with Solis. Between them the fault was identified and Matt came and fitted a new RCD. Fast, professional, friendly service. Would recommend.”
“Matt did an amazing job replacing our old fuse box! He was super clean, kept us informed every step of the way, and did a really professional job. We’ve used him for various other work since and we’ll definitely keep using his services again.”

What we find on Stevenage roofs
The New Town neighbourhoods
Stevenage was the first post-war New Town, built in neighbourhoods such as Bedwell, Broadwater, Chells, Shephall and Pin Green. A lot of it is terraced housing, and some has low-pitched or flat roofs, which take a frame to tilt the panels rather than ruling solar out.
Great Ashby and the newer estates
The newer estates on the edge of town are modern construction with conventional pitched roofs. Some already carry a small developer array, usually without storage. Worth knowing what you have before assuming it is sorted.
The Old Town
The Old Town High Street is a conservation area with listed buildings. Roof panels on an unlisted house there are usually permitted development, but listed buildings need consent. We check before we quote.
The parts that change the price
Flat and shallow roofs
A flat or low-pitched roof needs a ballasted or fixed frame to angle the panels. It changes the price and the layout, so we design it at survey rather than guess from a photo.
Roof orientation, not postcode
New Town streets run every which way, so neighbouring houses can face completely different directions. We measure the roof rather than estimate from an address.
Grid connection
Hertfordshire is on UK Power Networks' Eastern network. Most home systems are notified after installation; larger inverters and batteries need G99 approval first — the Welwyn Garden City job took about two weeks. We make the application and handle the paperwork, and we check the operator for your postcode.
Working in Stevenage from Milton Keynes
We are based in Bletchley, about 45 minutes from Stevenage. That matters less for the install than for what comes after: if something needs looking at, we come out ourselves rather than subcontract it.
Our nearest finished job in Hertfordshire is in Welwyn Garden City: 8.64kWp of solar, an 11.52kWh Fox ESS battery and a Zappi EV charger on a single south-east roof, with G99 grid approval through in about two weeks. Fitted in September 2026.
We have not finished a job in Stevenage itself yet, and we won't pretend otherwise.
Solar Panels in Stevenage — FAQ
From £5,600 for a 3.72kWp system and £5,900 for a 5.58kWp system on a straightforward roof, at 0% VAT until 31 March 2027. A flat roof needs a mounting frame, which adds to the price; we design and price it at survey rather than adding it later.
Yes. Panels go on a frame that tilts them towards the sun, weighted or fixed depending on the roof. We check the roof can take the load before we quote.
Yes. It is about 45 minutes from our Bletchley base, and our nearest Hertfordshire job is a few miles away in Welwyn Garden City. We have not finished one in Stevenage itself yet.
How it works
1. We call you back
Usually the same working day, to talk through what you want and book a survey.
2. Roof survey
About 40 minutes at your home. We measure the roof, check the consumer unit and look at where a battery could go.
3. A fixed price in writing
With an MCS performance estimate of what the system should generate. Nothing is added later.
4. Grid notification
We notify your network operator, or apply for G99 approval first on larger systems, which can take a few weeks.
5. Installation
Most homes take one or two days, with scaffold up for the roof work.
6. Handover
We set up the app with you and leave the MCS certificate you need to be paid for exporting.
