Victorian terraces
Much of Jericho, East Oxford and the streets off the Cowley Road is Victorian terrace: natural slate, a steep pitch and a narrow roof that usually limits the array before your budget does. Slate needs the right fixings and is unforgiving of anyone walking on it, so we scaffold properly rather than working off a ladder.
Conservation areas and listed houses
Large parts of central and north Oxford are conservation areas, and many older houses are listed. Roof panels on an unlisted house in a conservation area are usually permitted development, but a listed building needs consent and an Article 4 direction can remove the permission. We check before we quote, not after.
Headington, Marston and the post-war estates
The interwar and post-war semis on the edges of the city are the straightforward ground: concrete tile, unbroken slopes and typically a one-day install. On this stock the consumer unit is often the thing that needs attention, not the roof.
The parts that change the price
Which way the roof faces
Plenty of Oxford roofs face east and west rather than south. The Botley roof was split four panels each way at 46°: less at midday than a south roof, but output spread across the day, which suits a battery. We measure the roof rather than estimate from an address.
Scaffold on the pavement
On terraced streets the scaffold often has to stand on the pavement, which needs a licence from the highway authority. It shows up in the price, and we would rather tell you at survey than add it later.
Grid connection
Most Oxford postcodes are on SSEN's network (Southern Electric Power Distribution); north Oxfordshire is National Grid. Larger inverters and batteries need G99 approval before they can be switched on — the Botley system waited for it. We make the application and handle the paperwork.
Working in Oxford from Milton Keynes
We are based in Bletchley, about an hour from Oxford. Oxford is near the edge of the area we cover, which matters most for what comes after the install: if something needs looking at, we come out ourselves rather than subcontract it.

We set up the app with you and leave the MCS certificate you need to be paid for exporting.
