“Called Depth of Light because I was having trouble with my electricity tripping when solar panels kicked in each morning. Matt came round within a few days and spoke with Solis. Between them the fault was identified and Matt came and fitted a new RCD. Fast, professional, friendly service. Would recommend.”
“Matt did an amazing job replacing our old fuse box! He was super clean, kept us informed every step of the way, and did a really professional job. We’ve used him for various other work since and we’ll definitely keep using his services again.”

What we find on Amersham roofs
Old Amersham
The old town in the Misbourne valley is a conservation area, and much of the High Street is listed. Listed buildings need consent for panels, and visible roof slopes in the conservation area get a closer look. We check before we quote, not after.
Amersham-on-the-Hill
The town that grew up around the station is largely Edwardian and interwar: semis and detached houses with steep tiled roofs, often with hips and gables that split the roof into smaller faces. Design is about using the faces that work.
The Chilterns villages
Much of the area around Amersham is in the Chilterns National Landscape. Roof panels are usually still permitted development in the Chilterns National Landscape, but wall-mounted panels facing the road are not, and listed buildings and Article 4 areas need consent. We check before we quote.
The parts that change the price
Which way the roof faces
Hipped roofs split the area into several smaller faces. Sometimes an east and west split works better than squeezing everything onto one slope, especially with a battery. We measure the roof rather than estimate from an address.
Trees and shading
Mature trees are common across Amersham and can shade a roof in winter. We assess shading as part of the MCS performance estimate, so the figure you are quoted allows for it.
Grid connection
Larger inverters and batteries need G99 approval from the local network operator before they can be switched on. We check which operator covers your postcode, make the application and handle the paperwork.
Working in Amersham from Milton Keynes
We are based in Bletchley, about 50 minutes from Amersham. That matters less for the install than for what comes after: if something needs looking at, we come out ourselves rather than subcontract it.
Our nearest finished job in the Chilterns is at Little Kimble, near Princes Risborough: solar and a battery on a slate cottage roof, with a full write-up.
We have not finished a job in Amersham itself yet, and we won't pretend otherwise. Amersham is near the edge of the area we cover.
Solar Panels in Amersham — FAQ
From £5,600 for a 3.72kWp system and £5,900 for a 5.58kWp system on a straightforward roof, at 0% VAT until 31 March 2027. Older and listed roofs can cost more because of fixings, scaffolding and consent, which we price at survey rather than adding later.
Often yes, but it depends on the house. A listed building needs listed building consent, and in the conservation area an Article 4 direction can remove permitted development. We check your address before we quote.
Yes. It is about 50 minutes from our Bletchley base, near the edge of the area we cover. We have not finished a job in Amersham itself yet; the nearest are at Little Kimble and Quainton.
How it works
1. We call you back
Usually the same working day, to talk through what you want and book a survey.
2. Roof survey
About 40 minutes at your home. We measure the roof, check the consumer unit and look at where a battery could go.
3. A fixed price in writing
With an MCS performance estimate of what the system should generate. Nothing is added later.
4. Grid notification
We notify your network operator, or apply for G99 approval first on larger systems, which can take a few weeks.
5. Installation
Most homes take one or two days, with scaffold up for the roof work.
6. Handover
We set up the app with you and leave the MCS certificate you need to be paid for exporting.
